Staying Positive When Life Just Sucks

9:10 PM

I've recently come to conclusion that life can be really (excuse my french) fucking shitty sometimes. You think everything's going great and all of the sudden your whole world comes crashing down on you and you have the whole entire weight of the word on your shoulders while you're struggling to keep it lifted. Being human, it's easy to let all these things get to you and it becomes a challenge to stay positive. So why not take the hard way out?

The past couple weeks of my life have been filled with craziness and negativity and I could only handle so much of it. I thought I'd share some things that I've been trying to succeed with into having a more positive atmosphere and outlook on life.

1. Block Out The Negativity
With all the social media in this day and age, I find that we put ourselves in positions that are naturally going to make us unhappy. For example, looking at an ex's Instagram or Twitter, or even stalking your ex-best friends social media, is something I think we are all guilty of. However, doing this automatically brings up negative feelings of jealousy, anger, regret, sadness, or even resentment. I feel like, (especially with an ex) having the opportunity for them to look at your social media, or vice versa opens up your mind to wonder if maybe they're possibly checking up on you. Then you have a thought lingering in the back of your mind, that maybe they are still thinking about you. Chances are they're not, because an ex is an ex for a reason. My solution to this, is to just block them. Why give in to something that's just going to upset you in the end?

2. Surround Yourself With Good People
This is a must. Surrounding yourself by people who love you and make you happy is such a good feeling. Being with someone where you can just laugh uncontrollably or talk for hours is just one of the best feelings ever. I think it's important to be around those who are positive, happy lovable, and treat you well because ultimately, your friends are one of the things that shape you as a person.

3. Surround Yourself With Good Things
Now, what I mean by this, is to surround yourself with good opportunities. Whether, it's school, or work or your home atmosphere. Make it something you love and that you're happy with. Especially with work or college, when you're doing something you enjoy you automatically become so much more motivated and so much more likely to succeed.

4. Have A Creative Outlet
This is something I've always heard from my mom growing up, but did I ever listen? Of course not. However, recently I've discovered that I really enjoy painting when my head gets too fogged up with the amount of thoughts rushing back and fourth. Painting is something that relaxes me, as well as helps me get my thoughts out instead of keeping them bottled up inside. I've heard of others who use writing, photography, film, graphic design,
baking, and music as their creative outlet. It really depends on what you enjoy as a person.

5. Get Some Fresh Air
Lastly, I feel like getting some fresh air is one of the best things you can do. Especially after a stressful day, whether it's going on a small hike, or walking around your neighborhood, or even going for a drive with the windows down, it can make such a difference in your mood. Personally, one of my favorite things to do is walk by the beach, especially when there's a gorgeous sunset that appears out of nowhere. Something about a beautiful sky just makes me feel so at peace and happy.
