Saying Goodbye and Letting Go
11:55 PM
Getting over someone, or something is never easy; a friendship, relationship, whatever it was that had an unwanted ending. It sometimes becomes easy to become comfortable, and used to having someone around as it should be, because we are human. Sometimes we can be naive, and are quick to trust those who don't necessarily have the right intentions for us, but how can we know this right off the bat?
I think that’s the hardest part about letting go of someone- trusting, and accepting them into your life just for them to hurt you. Now the question is: How do you accept that someone you have gotten so used to being apart of your life, how do you accept that they're gone? In harsher words, how do you accept that they don't even really care?
I think the first step is understanding that at a certain point, a relationship can become one sided, and once this happens, it’s no longer benefiting you while you're still putting in the effort, that’s when you know this person isn't worth keeping around anymore. I find that a lot of the time, people can be incredibly selfish and only care for themselves and how they feel. We as humans can only put so much effort in someone until it’s literally emotionally draining and becomes too heavy on our hearts, so we need to put a stop to this in order to block that negative nonsense out. I feel like something that goes hand and hand with this, is not blaming yourself for why things didn't work out. Often times, things just don't work out just because, and theres no mere reason for that. It’s just something we need to accept. Missing someone who was once an important part in your life is a very normal feeling, but it’s important to know that just because we miss someone, does not mean that we need that person. You will move on, and you will be okay without them.
Many people that we meet in our lives enter just as quickly as they step out, and I think this is something that we all have to remind ourselves. However, the people who have been there, and will be there in the long run are the ones that matter the most. Family, genuine friendships, and true lovers. Some have been there forever, and some we have yet to meet, and I think this is something that we often forget because we get so caught up in the now, that we don't realize how much of our lives we have ahead of us.
When someone hurts you; a friend or a lover, it’s very important to not hold a grudge. Staying angry at someone forever is wasted negative energy that just builds up inside of you and that’s never a good thing. Remember to forgive, but do not forget, and to forgive, but only for yourself in order to let go. You may find yourself having trouble letting anyone new in, because you're scared, scared of being hurt, or let down, but thats part of life. With each type of love, comes a lesson, and we need to take that lesson to heart and listen to it, so that we can avoid these certain types of people that hurt us. Never let the bitterness of the world turn you into a person who is afraid to accept love, otherwise you might miss out on the person who actually deserves your love.
On that note, to the person that hurt me the most: I forgive you.

This was such a great read, and frankly makes me wish more millennials thought this way. I’m 20, and I always feel like my friends and family around this age have such a negative view of love. Heartbreak is very real, and very painful, BUT the lessons in it are increidbly valuable to both people. The truth is our time as human beings on this earth is limited. Why spend it angry with someone? Why spend our days regretting an experience, rather than embracing the lessons in it? You’re post proves that both are useless, and ironically more of a time suck than just getting through it and becoming stronger! I’m not gonna lie to you, my girlfriend and I broke up recently and I decided to get back on tinder out of sheer boredom after almost a year off that stupid app. The first profile to pop up was you, with a note to hit you on IG, and this link to exactly what I needed to hear right now. Thank you for bringing clarity to my life! Keep spreading your wisdom! :) - Dante
